About this website
1. Why I Created This Website?
I have been a Chinese teacher since 2018, and over these years, I have taught Chinese to more than 400 students from around the world. Many of my students lead busy lives with work and other commitments, making it difficult for them to attend daily lessons with me. Consequently, they often feel frustrated after studying Chinese for one or two years yet still perceiving their level as relatively low.
I frequently encourage them to create a learning environment for themselves every day, emphasizing that even a little bit of learning is beneficial. However, I understand that spending time actively searching for materials and determining which resources are suitable for their level makes starting to learn even more challenging. I also have highly motivated students who want to learn more after class and often ask me to recommend learning materials.
Gradually, I began to develop the idea of creating a Chinese learning website. This stems from my own experience learning foreign languages, where I faced similar challenges. During those moments, I would think, “How wonderful it would be if there were a website where I could find all the resources and tools I need for language learning!”
2. How to Use This Website?
This website consists of three main sections: Courses, Grammar Dictionary, and Blog. Free members can access some content, subscription members can access all content.
Courses Section – There are 8 different types of courses available:
- If you’re a beginner, start with the Introductory Course to learn Chinese fundamentals
- If you want to progress step-by-step from low to high levels, use HSK 1-6 Texts, then practice more with Graded Reading
- If you want to expand your vocabulary, study Daily Vocabulary
- If you want to learn more practical, everyday Chinese, try Situational Chinese
- If you want to practice expressing yourself in Chinese through description, use Picture Description
- If you want to improve your listening skills and increase vocabulary, use Chinese Stories
- After mastering the basics, if you want to hear authentic Chinese, you can use Authentic Materials
Grammar Dictionary – If learning Chinese is like building a house, grammar is the framework of that house. When you’ve learned some vocabulary but still can’t form complete sentences, I recommend using the Grammar Dictionary. It’s a tool you can use to look up and learn grammar whenever you encounter grammatical questions during your studies.
Blog Section – This section introduces learning methods, learning tools, Chinese culture, and travel tips for China.
3. How to Improve Speaking Skills?
You might ask, “Using these materials can improve my listening and reading, but I don’t have opportunities to speak, and I don’t know if what I’m saying is correct.”
Language learning has three important components: input, output, and feedback. Unfortunately, this website primarily helps with input. I recommend using language learning apps to find language partners, such as HelloTalk and Tandem. If you want to improve your speaking and listening skills more rapidly, I also recommend taking one-on-one private lessons with me.
No matter how you found your way here, it is a wonderful 缘分 (yuánfèn – fateful coincidence). I hope you enjoy the process of learning Chinese. As one of the most difficult languages to learn, you will certainly encounter many difficulties and challenges, but persistence leads to victory!
I believe there will be a day—when you’re conversing confidently with Chinese speakers, traveling through China using the language, reading Chinese books fluently, or understanding Chinese videos with ease—that you’ll say to yourself:
“It’s amazing that I can speak Chinese. I’m so proud of myself!”
